Read on to get a breakdown of NBA YoungBoy’s past, ongoing, and recent legal cases.
Robbery Charges and Juvenile Detention
NBA YoungBoy dropped out of high school in ninth grade after being sentenced to Juvenile detention for robbery charges in 2014. Since he was still a minor and the charges did not contain violence, he got released after serving six months.
Attempted Murder Charges
YoungBoy was arrested on November 28, 2016, after U.S Marshals accused him of opening fire on a group of individuals on South Baton Rouge Street. Based on several reports, one of the victims was a passenger shot in the neck.
That resulted in Gaulden getting charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder because he instigated the drive-by shooting that may have caused another person’s life.
The reports indicated that police and investigators believed that the shooting instigated by Gaulden may have been a retaliation to the death of 18-year-old Keondrae Ricks, who was shot to death hours before the drive-by shooting occurred.
Gaulden soon pleaded guilty to a lesser criminal charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. He later was sentenced to three years of probation and a suspended 10-year prison sentence on August 22, 2017. The suspended prison term was pending the defendant’s ability to finish his probation.
Assault
Following hotel surveillance footage showing Gaulden assaulting his ex-girlfriend, name unmentioned, Gaulden got arrested under suspicion of kidnapping, assault, and weapons violations on February 25, 2018. He later posted bail and was released from confinement.
Assault and Battery
From the looks of it, NBA YoungBoy did not seem to slow down with his run-ins with the court and the law. On March 12, 2019, NBA YoungBoy and TyQuian Bowman were reported to have committed assault and caused emotional distress to the claimant.
The lawsuit claimed that the assailant, Gaulden, Bowman, his tour manager, colleague rapper, and bodyguard confronted the claimant at a concert in Florence, South Carolina. The claimant stated that the two attacked him backstage. He sustained significant injuries claiming to have ruined his reputation as a disc jockey.
The lawsuit was not pursued pending Gaulden’s attorney’s plea to look into the case further.
The Miami Shooting
On May 12, 2019, NBA YoungBoy became involved in another shooting in Miami. Gaulden was allegedly returning fire instigated by another person, killing a bystander and injuring his girlfriend at the time.
Although Gaulden knew he was still on probation for the attempted murder charges filed in 2017, he did not refrain from getting into more trouble. This time, Gaulden was charged with a probation violation, forcing him to spend three months in jail.
Later, his presiding judge banned him from performing for two months and sentenced him to house arrest following his release.
Probation Termination and Renewal
Although Gaulden’s probation got terminated on December 13, 2019, it was later renewed on other charges. Following an assault on his ex-girlfriend, the judge sentenced him to a year and five days probation.
Drug Charges
On September 28, 2020, cops in Baton Rouge claimed to have arrested 16 individuals, including rapper NBA YoungBoy, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The arrest was based on an anonymous tip regarding the crime in motion. The criminals got charged with illegally possessing stolen firearms and drugs with intention to distribute.
However, for NBA YoungBoy, he was lucky enough not to face charges for this crime because a statement was released claiming that YoungBoy did not have the drugs and firearms other than in the presence of the other criminals.
The case following his arrest is unknown.
Federal Gun Charge
On March 22, 2021, YoungBoy was arrested by federal agents in L.A. following the Baton Rouge arrest in 2020. After conducting a thorough search using sniff dogs, officers booked him on federal gun charges. He served jail time for a few months and got released on October 26, 2021, on a $1.5 million bail.
